Fitstudios has added a new service to their wellness program, Kinesiology and Manual Therapy, done by our very own Coach Faiza.

Kinesiology is the scientific study of human movement, performance, and function. The practice of kinesiology incorporates the sciences of biomechanics, anatomy, and physiology, and considers neuroscience and psychosocial factors.

Kinesiologists are clinical exercise specialists that can assist in managing one’s health through various forms of manual therapy, exercise assessment and exercise therapy.

Services Offered:

  • Postural Assessment
  • Movement Assessment
  • Aerobic Fitness, Strength, Gait Analysis

Manual Therapy - hands-on

  • Myofascial, Muscle Energy, Cranial-Sacral
  • and Strain/Counterstrain

Registered Kinesiologists are one of the "Authorized Medical Providers" recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency for the purpose of claiming medical expenses in Ontario.

So if your insurance package does not currently recognize Kinesiology, you can submit Kinesiology receipts with your income tax and it will definitely be accepted there for a tax credit.

Postural Assessment

Postural Assessment

Have your sitting and standing posture assessed to see if it could be creating dysfunctions in your movement or causing your pain. Excessive sitting and standing can create compensations that can limit your movement and cause dysfunction and pain

Movement Assessment

Movement Assessment

Assessing your aerobic fitness, your level of strength and your gait can provide valuable information prior to starting a training program. This will allow you to not only have a baseline of your fitness but also identify areas of weakness and provide ongoing subjective measurements. It is an excellent way to track your fitness progression and development.

Manual Therapy

Myofascial

Myofascial

Myofascial tissue is a type of connective tissue that extends throughout your body, providing support and protection to your muscles and bones. Healthy myofascial tissue is soft and relaxed. Trauma, surgery and inflammation can cause it to become tight and atheized, which lead to restricted movement that can result in pain. During a treatment session the tissue will be stretched and loosened through gentle pressure, helping to increase blood flow and lymphatic drainage and taking the pressure off nerves.

Muscle Energy

Muscle Energy

Muscle energy is an active therapy technique that influences the neuromuscular unit of a joint. It involves the activation of a muscle against resistance from the therapist and then a moment of release and repositioning. The patient engages a muscle or group of muscles, which are labeled to be the source of pain or the cause of hypomobility in the body. This muscle engagement induces re-setting of the neuromuscular unit resulting in improved musculoskeletal function, relaxation, and a reduction in pain.

Cranial-Sacral

Cranial-Sacral

Is a gentle technique that examines membranes and movement of the fluids in and around the central nervous system. Through the gentle manipulation of the bones in the skull, spine, and pelvis. The flow of cerebrospinal fluid in the central nervous system can be normalized to relieve tension, eliminate pain and boost health and immunity. Overall, it promotes a feeling of well-being, helping to release both emotional and physical stress and tension, boosting inherent self-regulation, self-correction, and self-healing.

Strain/Counterstrain

Strain/Counterstrain

Passively positions spasmed muscles and dysfunctional joints toward a position of comfort and ease. The shortening of the muscle relaxes the deep fascial pain receptors which maintain the muscle in its guarded state. This approach allows the joint to once again function optimally; increasing its range of motion and easing muscle and joint pain. Strain Counterstrain is an effective and extremely gentle technique because its action for treatment moves the patient’s body away from the painful, restricted directions of motion. Pain-free movement can be built and restored for the long term through exercise.

Exercise Prescription

Exercise Prescription

Once an assessment has been conducted, and goals and areas of weakness have been identified, an exercise program can be developed to get you to your goals. Achieve optimal functioning, good health, and longevity.

Exercise Therapy

Exercise Therapy

Is a guided exercise session with a therapist that will be programmed to meet your health and fitness goals and needs. It will be tailored and accommodated to your body’s abilities each session.
