As frustrating as the new restrictions regarding gyms and fitness centers are, building up your own health and fitness remains one of the most effective ways to combat Covid. The new year is a time when a lot of people are motivated to set and reach new fitness goals. (Trust me, anyone who's worked in a gym knows the rush).
But this year is different, with gyms being shut down again at a pretty inopportune time. Despite this, you should still be doing everything in your power to continue forward with your fitness goals.
Not even speaking of Covid, building up your immune system through proper diet and exercise is a fantastic preventative measure.
In regards to Covid, the data speaks for itself.
“Those who reported that they were regularly engaging in at least 150 minutes of moderate-to-strenuous exercise per week — essentially a brisk walk or better — when they were diagnosed with COVID-19 had significantly lower odds of hospitalization, intensive care unit admission and death than those who estimated their weekly efforts at 10 minutes or less,” says one study.
“Researchers found that the risk of hospitalization for those with low activity levels was more than twice as high as for those who got moving for at least 2.5 hours every week. Low activity levels also correlated with death rates that were about 2.5 times higher than they were for those with high activity levels,” says another.
Based on the data, only having had a previous organ transplant or pregnancy at the time of infection correlated with greater odds of COVID-related hospital admission. Physical activity is one of the most powerful predictors of health, period.
With this data, and just common sense mind you, we would hope that more public policy would be focused on promoting physical activity. But unfortunately, that’s not the case. In spite of current public health policy, do whatever you can to be physically active. FitStudios has tons of options that can help you reach your goals.
